Argentina has an extensive air transportation system that plays an essential role in national mobility due to the country’s vast geographical expanse. The infrastructure is primarily concentrated in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, which has two complementary major airports that strategically divide international and regional traffic flows.

The Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Pistarini (EZE), better known as Ezeiza, is Argentina’s main gateway for international air traffic. Located southwest of the capital, it handles the majority of long-haul flights from Europe, North America, and other continents. As the primary hub for international travelers and global cargo traffic, it serves as the logistical backbone connecting the country to the global economy.

It is complemented by Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), which is located directly within the city limits of Buenos Aires on the banks of the Río de la Plata. Aeroparque is the bustling hub for domestic air travel as well as regional connections to neighboring countries. Due to its central location, it is particularly popular with business travelers and tourists, who can quickly travel from there to provinces such as Patagonia, the wine-growing region around Mendoza, or the Iguazú Falls.

In the provinces, locations such as Mendoza Airport (MDZ) in the west and Córdoba Airport (COR) in the center of the country serve as important regional hubs. These airports make it possible to efficiently bridge the vast distances between the Andes and the Pampas without every flight necessarily having to pass through the capital. Bariloche Airport (BRC) is also particularly important for tourism, serving as the central gateway to the Argentine Lake District.

In summary, Argentina’s air traffic is heavily concentrated around the two major airports in Buenos Aires, while a network of efficient regional airports ensures access to the country’s diverse landscapes and economic centers.
