Airports in Denmark: Major Airports and Flight Information
Denmark, officially known as the Kingdom of Denmark, is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries in Northern Europe. It borders Germany to the south and is otherwise surrounded by the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The country consists of the Jutland Peninsula and an archipelago of over 400 islands, the largest of which are Zealand (Sjælland) and Funen. With an area of approximately 43,094 square kilometers, the mainland of Denmark is relatively small, but it boasts an impressive coastline of over 7,300 kilometers. The Kingdom also includes the autonomous territories of Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
The capital, Copenhagen, is the cultural and political center. Denmark is a constitutional monarchy and one of the oldest in Europe, with a history dating back to the Vikings in the 8th century. Unlike many other European countries, Denmark is known worldwide today for its progressive social model, which regularly ranks it among the happiest countries in the world.
Culturally, Denmark is inextricably linked to the concept of hygge—a sense of coziness, well-being, and contentment. The Danes are also known for their love of cycling and their focus on environmental protection and renewable energy. World-renowned contributions to culture and the economy include Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales and the invention of Lego bricks. Although Denmark is a member of the European Union, it has chosen to retain its own currency, the Danish krone.
The landscape is largely flat and characterized by farmland, heathland, and rolling hills. The coastlines, with their wide sandy beaches, dunes, and cliffs—such as those on the island of Bornholm—make Denmark a popular destination for nature and beach lovers.
