Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a country in the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, famous for its rugged coastline and majestic mountains. With an area of approximately 385,207 square kilometers (including Svalbard and Jan Mayen) and a population of about 5.5 million, it boasts some of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth. The capital, Oslo, is situated at the head of the Oslofjord and combines innovative modern architecture—such as the famous Opera House—with green parks and a deep connection to the sea.

Norway’s history is inextricably linked to the Viking Age, when skilled shipbuilders and fearless explorers sailed as far as America. After centuries of union with Denmark and later with Sweden, Norway achieved full independence in 1905. In the 20th century, the discovery of vast oil reserves in the North Sea transformed the country from a fishing nation into one of the wealthiest and most stable countries in the world. Today, Norway is not a member of the EU, but it is a close partner and a pioneer in environmental protection and electric mobility.

Deeply rooted in the Norwegian soul is the concept of “Friluftsliv” (outdoor life)—the desire to be in nature in all kinds of weather, whether skiing, hiking, or fishing. As in Finland, the “Allemannsretten” (everyone’s right) applies here as well, which requires respectful treatment of the wilderness. Norwegians are considered to be close to nature, down-to-earth, and easygoing. Despite their enormous wealth, they value equality and social justice, while at the same time preserving their cultural traditions, such as the magnificent stave churches and traditional crafts.
