Airports in Uganda: Major Airports and Flight Information
Uganda’s aviation infrastructure plays an indispensable strategic, economic, and tourism role for this landlocked East African nation. Given that the country is geographically characterized by vast lake regions, tropical forests, and mountainous areas—and connects to major international trade routes—civil aviation serves as the most important and safest lifeline for linking national centers and ensuring global connectivity.
The undisputed operational hub and by far the country’s most important international gateway is Entebbe International Airport (EBB), located directly on the shores of Lake Victoria, not far from the capital, Kampala. It serves as the primary hub for all international scheduled flights connecting Uganda with major African cities, the Middle East, and Europe, and handles the majority of passenger and cargo traffic.
Kasese Airport (KSE) complements the route network to facilitate regional development and support the significant tourism sector—particularly for travelers visiting the national parks and the world-famous mountain gorillas in the west. It serves as an important regional hub for domestic and charter traffic.
The operational structure of Uganda’s air transport system is designed to handle growing international travel as well as the specific requirements of regional tourism, although seasonal weather conditions occasionally require flexible planning.
